Webinar: Learning from our Mistakes- What the Lemnhult Wind Tower Collapse Can Teach US About Fastener Fatigue
Friday, June 20, 2025
12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET
COURSE DETAILS:
The adage “we can learn from our mistakes” seems to be never truer than after a man-made catastrophe. Fortunately, given the critical nature of our fastener products, major accidents whose root cause can be traced to the fastened joint are relatively rare. However, they do occur, and smart professionals use these opportunities to learn what went wrong and devise ways to prevent them from occurring again in the future. On Thursday, December 24, 2015, Tower #15 in the Lemnhult Wind Farm near the Swedish city of Vetlanda collapsed between the first and second mast sections.
This webinar will explore the details of the forensic investigation that followed this collapse and how emerging details of the construction process and service environment caused the flange bolts to fatigue and fail. In addition, this webinar will explore how the fatigue failure mechanism occurs in fasteners and relate that to the factors that preceded it in this accident. This webinar is excellent for anyone wanting to learn more about fatigue in fasteners or gain appreciation for the criticality of good fastener design, installation, and manufacturing practice.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Engineering, technical sales, quality, anyone wanting to better appreciate the importance of threaded fasteners.
