IFI Training Topic – Day 1: Fundamentals of Manufacturing Threaded Fasteners

Course Details:

In this one-day class, students will become familiar with the overall fastener manufacturing process, including how all the disparate parts come together in a finished fastener. The course provides a high-level overview of the primary processes and machines used. Some process approaches will also be compared.

In addition to primary manufacturing processes, such as cold heading and thread rolling, students will review secondary and “outside” processes such as machining, grinding, heat treating and plating. The class concludes with a review of cost drivers and how different processes play a role in the comparative cost of parts.

This course provides a high-level overview and is designed for individuals who do not need in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing process but rather those who would benefit greatly from understanding how all the pieces come together to produce a finished fastener.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Individuals new to the fastener industry
  • Quality, engineering or materials junior members
  • Sales professionals
  • Inside sales and customer service professionals
  • Executives and leaders in non-technical or non-manufacturing roles
  • ASD members who seek a broader understanding of fastener manufacturing
  • Anyone who would benefit from a basic understanding of the fastener manufacturing process
  • Individuals who work for an associate supplier and would benefit from understanding how their business contributes to the overall fastener manufacturing process

IFI Training Topic – Day 2: Troubleshooting Common Fastener Quality Issues

Course Details:

This all-day class provides students with an intermediate look at quality issues universally experienced throughout the fastener industry. Common issues in the fastener industry will be broadly covered with problems categorized into several areas: raw material, forming, thread rolling, secondaries, handling, heat treating, and plating.

In addition to identifying the problems, common causes and prevention strategies will be reviewed and presented. The class concludes with a review of sorting technology and which common quality issues are capable of being detected.

This is an intermediate level class that exposes participants to new ways of thinking about root causes to common quality issues and how to prevent them. The class requires some limited understanding of fastener manufacturing processes, including what can go wrong.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Quality department roles
  • Production, operational management
  • Product, quality, and manufacturing engineering
  • New part launch
  • Technical sales
  • Individuals wanting to learn more about the industry and product-related challenges
