This new standard was developed by a task group of volunteer experts at the request of IFI members and industry stakeholders. The objective of the standard is to specify thread dimensions and tolerances for two sizes of coarse threads that are commonly used in the steel construction industry, but not listed in ASME B1.1. We hope IFI-171 will avoid potential differences of interpretation by manufacturers and users. This standard will be added the Online Book of Fastener Standards and to future publications of the hardcover Book of Fastener Standards. The long-term objective is to add these two sizes in a future revision of ASME B1.1.
Description
This IFI standard specification provides specific thread dimensions and tolerances for two sizes of coarse threads, 1-5/8 – 5-1/2, and 1-7/8 – 5, first defined by the United States Navy as early as 1904, that are commonly used in the steel construction industry.
